Addiction is complicated. The source of addiction is unique to each individual so there isn't one single path to recovery that works for everyone. However, there are some basic guidelines that anyone who wishes to recover should follow.

To defeat any strong enemy, you have to know your enemy. You need a basic understanding of what addiction is. To gain this understanding you should look in many different places.

Talk to many other recovering addicts.
-
Connect spiritually.

By doing this consistently you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of addiction and the unique reason it is effecting you.
Once you have this understanding, then controlling the addiction is about controlling the mind. At first it is difficult and you will likely need someone to teach you.
